Carnegie Hotel was located at 6803 Carnegie Avenue. Hotel owners Earnestine and Eddie Eadie sold their interests in the sixty-room hostelry in 1947 to Alonzo Wright, who also operated the Majestic Hotel on East 55th Street. The former manager of the Blue Grass Club and Mason’s Farm took charge of operating the hotel’s Blue Room and Cocktail Lounge at that time. Wright sold the hotel in 1961.

My father was a bellhop at the Carnegie Hotel, to my best recollection, between the years 1955 and 1962. He met and served many of the then noted black entertainers and athletes who came to Cleveland.
I remember Reverend Sam used to preach from there. I would hear his broadcast on the radio every Sunday.
My aunt and uncle, Howard “Dean” and Mary Alice Johnson bought the Carnegie Hotel in 1961.
My father, Sylvester H. Barnes Jr. was the manager until it was sold in 1964. I saw an array of entertainers there from Jerry Butler to the Spinners doing that time. The food was fabulous and people from all over the city came there to have lunch and dinner.
